What is Academic Integrity
ACADEMIC INTEGRITY means you do your own work and you submit your own work.
ACADEMIC INTEGRITY means you do the learning.
ACADEMIC INTEGRITY means you can use resources to help you learn, including internet searches, tutors, and AI. AND you do so responsibly. You cite your sources. You ensure that you do not use resources as a crutch, You use resources to expand your own learning.
ACADEMIC INTEGRITY means you can demonstrate your learning without support, in particular whenever you do a DISCUSSION-BASED ASSESSMENT.

ACADEMIC INTEGRITY EXPECTATIONS
- you submit your own work
- you cite your sources
- you do not turn in another person's work (AI or not) as your own
- you are able to demonstrate that the work you turn in is yours, in particular, through a DBA
ACADEMIC INTEGRITY ... When it happens if teachers believe you may not have done all the work on your own? We talk!
- It is the responsibility of all VS teachers to review student work for academic integrity. If a teacher suspects that work does not meet the AI guidelines for VS, they will communicate in a timely manner with students.
- First Time We Talk: Teacher speaks with student about what Academic Integrity is, expectations. The student will have the opportunity to demonstrate proficiency through a resubmisison, discussion or alternative assignment, at the teacher's discretion and depending on the task.
- Second Time We Talk: Teacher speaks with student about second violation. Teacher informs VS administrators and parents of second violation. Student resubmits work under supervision of teacher.
- Third Time We Talk: Teacher speaks with student about academic integrity and the work that prompted the conversation. Teacher informs VS and high school administrators and parents of third violation. Student will have the opportunity to demonstrate proficiency through a resubmission, a DBA with or without notes or an alternative assignment, at the discretion of the teacher and depending on the task.
