Blended Online Teacher - Spanish

Born and raised in Brookings, OR, Matthew completed high school in McMinnville and went on to earn Economics and Spanish degrees at Seattle University. Matthew began teaching in Los Angeles, CA in 2004, where he also received a Master's degree in education from Loyola Marymount University. In 2008, he returned to Oregon to teach Spanish immersion for Portland Public Schools. After going on leave to teach English in Perú and then working as an assessment specialist, Matthew landed at Virtual Scholars as a Spanish teacher. Matthew's favorite aspect of blended learning is the ability to watch students acquire a language using their strengths and at their own pace. When not working, Matthew enjoys traveling to Europe & Latin America and eating Peruvian food with his wife Elvecia. "The end of all knowledge should be service to others." -César E. Chávez
