Valerie Brantveyn

Valerie was born in Santa Clara, CA, where she lived for 10 years prior to moving to Beaverton, OR with her family. After earning her high school diploma at Aloha High School, she attended the University of Oregon in Eugene, where she completed her Bachelor of Arts in History with a focus on secondary education. Valerie is passionate about education and enjoys working with students of all ages and abilities. During her time at UO, she worked in the tutoring department providing support for students enrolled in remedial mathematics courses. Following graduation, Valerie volunteered at Eugene Boys and Girls club for several months, then worked as an early childhood educator at Penelope’s Place Childcare in Eugene for two years. In May of 2025, she returned to the Portland metro area, which she calls her true home. There, she partnered with A Brilliant Nanny to provide on-demand childcare for children aged 6 months through 12 years during the summer.

This is Valerie’s first year with Virtual Scholars, and she is excited to be supporting high school students on their path to graduation. She hopes to one day earn her Masters in Education and pursue a career teaching social studies at the high school level.

In her free time, Valerie enjoys exploring the Oregon coast, painting, playing guitar, practicing her Russian language skills, and snuggling with her two cats, Lucky and Groucho.
